The number of people living in cities and urban centers is rapidly growing and future urban mobility is under pressure. At Milford, we see the city as a place where a growing number of people should have access to nature, feel safe, and have calm spaces in perfect balance with a diverse transportation system and infrastructure.

According to the UN, around 2.5 billion more people will be living in cities by 2050. By that time, two out of every three people are likely to be living in cities or other urban centers.

Urban mobility is under pressure and there’s a need for innovative, sustainable urban planning and solutions that can meet future challenges and rethink how to build and maintain future infrastructure.

At Milford, we see it is important to rethink future urban mobility in order to ensure more liveable cities, where people thrive, are happy, and feel safe.

"Unless we start designing our cities differently, these problems will negatively affect people's physical livability. Designing 'Livable cities' is more than supporting citizens in getting to work. It's about designing sustainable solutions for all aspects of people’s lives in urban spaces. We see it as our mission to create solutions for people", states Wyatt Harding, CEO of Milford.

Solutions to create liveable cities

The vision with Milfords solutions is to offer the tools for architects and landscape architects so that they can design diverse cities from a reality where cars were the defining factor and now to a broader perspective where we design urban mobility for pedestrians, bicycles, public transportation, and cars.

Milford focuses to deliver solutions that meet the increased public transportation and facilitate greener alternatives to change private car use and congestion, adding a more holistic usage to the cityscape. Solutions that, in the end, saves both time and cost for people and society and make cities more Liveable.

It can be a challenge to combine the freedom of the landscape architects with the different requirements of handling water flow, give trees sufficient space to have a long and healthy life, the handling of heavy traffic such as buses and light rails, etc. But in cooperation with the construction industry, we have created a wide range of solutions that solve the challenges and provide the architects with the freedom to design urban environments according to their vision.

"For 20 years, Milford has dealt with know-how and systems to enhance urban spaces and landscapes across the whole of Scandinavia. All our systems were developed in close collaboration with leading architects, landscape architects, engineers, and landscapers. As an architect, you are free to create the urban environments that best combine urban mobility and an environment where urban residents enjoy being – when they're on their way to work or when they have the time off”, tells Mark Walton, Operations at Milford.

Many years of innovation and collaboration have created a solid foundation of knowledge both in terms of solutions and know-how leading to creative freedom. Milford has a team of skilled landscape engineers that can help you with technical solutions. If you need help for your project, please do not hesitate to contact us.
